POLICE RECORDS
Police Records is a section of the Administrative Services Division. The Records Unit maintains the official records compiled by all divisions that comprise the Rockwall Police Department.

PUBLIC INFORMATION REQUESTS
Anyone may request information from the Rockwall Police Department pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act. The Rockwall Police Department has ten (10) business days, with “day 1” being the first business day following receipt of the written request, to respond in some way to a request. Some requests for certain records may not immediately be released. For example, record requests concerning juveniles, open criminal investigations, child abuse investigations, and sexual assault investigations may be sent to the Texas Attorney General's Office for a ruling concerning release of the records. This process typically takes many weeks or longer. In the event the Department believes the requested information to be exempt from discloser, a decision from the Texas Attorney General will be requested. If an Attorney General's opinion is sought, the requestor will be notified in writing.

When requesting information, requestor must provide a very detailed description of the documents they are requesting. At a minimum, the request should include the type of incident(s), name(s) of people involved, date(s), time(s), and location(s). (Failure to provide very specific information may result in the delay of fulfilling the request.)

A public information request is most conveniently made online by accessing the Public Records Center. A requestor may also submit one in person via a Public Information Request Form and returning it in person during regular business hours - Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM or by mail to the Rockwall Police Department Records Division at 205 W. Rusk Street, Rockwall, Texas 75087. Requests may also be sent by facsimile to: (972) 772-7749
